Childbirth Prep Is A Go

Well folks! I just finished my first childbirth preparation class. There are 3 to attend. It was very interesting and kind of summed up basically everything that I already knew, but just wanted to brush over for just in case this kiddo comes without that planned c-section.

They showed a video at the end of the class and one of the ladies that was having a baby kind of cracked me up. She got up (stood up beside her bed) when she was completely dialated and decided she didn't want to push. Uh, hello, but when I was dialated (and not even completely fully at that) with Bethany every cell in my body wanted to push. I had pushed so hard that it was a wonder she didn't fly across the room. Lucky for her a improper pubic bone growth kept her from flying out on her little bungee cord.

I do realize that every labor in every person is different, but seriously who stands up fully dialated and effaced and says "That's it I'm not doing it!" In my case, I didn't even make a decision. This decision was something internal born of long ago that my body made not me. There wasn't any choice making here. The body said "Out you evil little thing!" Just kidding. Seriously, if you would have asked me do you really want to push, I would have probably replied back in my "Exorcist" voice leave me the #@%$ alone before I rip off your head and eat it!!!! Just ask my father if this is true or not when he told me to breathe. Poor guy immediately went off in search of coffee. I had probably scared the bejeezus out of him since I never once spoke such foul things to him before.

Ah, the pleasantries of labor. Anyhoo, you see why I had to laugh. Jeff is a very lucky man indeed because of this planned c-section he won't get to experience the possessed Pam. Although, I have been talking to him lately that it would be nice if I could at least go in to have the c-section after my water breaks. That way God is picking Isaac's birthdate not the doctor. I know this happened with a friend of mine just a few weeks ago. And, quite frankly, I wouldn't mind experiencing some of the pain just so I know I had indeed went into labor and don't feel completely cheated out of the whole birth process............................

Ok, I said a "little" bit of pain. lol. Not where you are begging to receive an epidural. An epidural, now this kind of scares me. See, when I received the epidural with Bethany, I was so completely out of my mind that if you asked me what 1+1 was I couldn't tell you let alone my own name. The good part is that I don't remember very much of what happened only bits and pieces like the part with my dad. Now, the reason this scares me is that I have had several cortizone injections in my back and they were really unbearable. So, my question, is that epidural going to feel like that this time? Strange that this is what I fear, but it is. I think this fear has heightened just a tad bit when my friend said they tried 3 times to get hers in and couldn't so they had to put her out. OK, so that meant that bloody needle getting jabbed between the vertebrae at least 3 times. I have had that experience. The searching for that spinal nerve....with that long needle....... it's agony. So, extra prayers are needed in this one area alone I can see.

Ok, now that you all think I am fairly silly and have had a good laugh with a bit of "she's nuts" mixed in, it is time for me to run. Not literally, seriously, you DON'T want to see me run these days.

Hugs,
pam

  1. Ahhh yes, childbirth. Now that's right up my birth alley. teehee! The say it gets easier with each one, so by the time you and Jeff have #4, you'll be doing it at home. ;) Regardless of what method of delivery you choose, the end result is always the most memorable! I was in labor for 2 hours, Isiah was out in 2 pushes, no drugs. Love this blog Pam!!!

  2. I didn't get the cervical and pudendal block as promised. I just would come up on my knees and quite literally forced you out. Jsu heard on the news: don't use Vick's Vaporub on small children (toddlers) because it has been found nto increase the mucus flow in the nose which triggers the same mucus response in the chest. How about that folks? They just said it really isn't a decongestant and don't use it under the nose. Hmm?
I will be praying for a quick and easy birth for you My Darling. I will also pray you don't have back labor if you really want to endure some of it.
    Love you,
    Mom
