Isaac's Future Digs from Beginning to End

Jeff had to give up his cozy little office for the nursery. He was pretty bummed at first to be uprooted, but was willing to make the sacrifice for Baby I.

After much work of (about a 1000 trips up and down 3 flights of stairs) Jeff is all settled into his office and actually likes his new office better than his old. He has tons more space, a couch, a tv, tons of bookshelves, and much more. The best part of it all that has made this more than worth while is that he has a permanent place for his train set. I hear him down there constantly playing with it now. It was always such a pain before because he'd set it up and play with it for a hour or so and then have to put it all back in the box which is a huge job.

With everything moved out of Jeff's office, we got right to work. While Jeff was still unpacking and arranging his office, I got busy putting up the making around the room and started doing all the cutting in and some rolling before he was able to come up and help me out. Oh, and I did wear a mask the whole time I painted. I just took it off for the picture! =)

After much work, I handed over the reigns to Jeff to do the ceiling part. I just couldn't reach it well enough and then I had my mom chew my rear for getting up on a step stool.

After 2 days of painstaking work and touchups we are done with the paint job. I am very pleased with it. I love the color and it matches the carpet. I call it my destress room for now because I can go in there and feel totally relaxed. lol.

While I was still touching up the various areas on the wall that seeped under the masking tape, Jeff started putting the crib together. We were very upset to find out that the crib was damaged. Because the box had been in good shape, we can only assume that it was damaged at the manufacturer and not from being shipped from Pottery Barn to my friend's in Virginia and then the trip from Virginia to Ramstein AB in Germany and then the long trip from Ramstein AB to our humble abode in Hohenfels. The leg was cracked and is slightly bent, several scuffs on various parts of the crib and lastly a broken plastic piece where the side slides up and down. There is really nothing that can be done about it either since we can't exactly go and exchange it. I guess I should call Pottery Barn though and let them know that the crib was damaged. Ugh...

Jeff finished putting the crib together and got the mattress to put in there. We didn't get the mattress we wanted, but went ahead and settled with the PX brand. I think it's actually a Kolcraft. I wanted the Serta, but of course they were out and didn't know when they would get anymore in. Such as life though.

In spite of the flaws on the crib, we are so delighted with this bed. It is super heavy quality wood. I really love this bed. If the leg can withstand (which I think it will be able to since Jeff did the push hard, shake hard, jump up and down hard test on it) then we'll be able to use this crib....maybe again?

After putting the crib together, Jeff was off putting together the changing table/armoire.

Almost done with the armoire and I am totally loving it!

Everything is finally done! All furniture is put together and the room has been cleaned. I spent the next couple of days with Jeff's help putting away all of Isaac's little clothes and Jeff hung some decorations that I had purchased.

The armoire sits next to my old glider rocker that Jeff bought me when we were first married and trying to get pregnant.

My nursing corner. The chair really needs some work, but I never could find a place reasonable enough to cover the cushions on the glider. Jeff also put together the little table next to the chair. I'm hoping to get a nice light to put on there for late night feedings.

The crib with the bedding in it, but not on it. I lucked out and was able to get the bedding set on sale at Pottery Barn in December, but I still need to buy a few sheets for it. I probably won't make the bed for another month or so.

All of lil' Isaac's clothes hanging in his closet. Jeff is totally infatuated with the jeans and chinos I picked up for him. I have a hard time picking out my favorite because they are all such cute little things. I think my all time favorite is the brown and orange striped little outfit that I got him for coming home. There is a brown cabbie hat sitting on the shelf that goes with it.

More stuff. I need to get a couple of baskets or something for inside the closet. I'm not sure where I am going to put all of the baby stuff. lol. Who knew babies needed so much stuff! I guess I had forgotten the times that Bethany was a baby.

I love these cute little blue divider boxes that I got at Ikea for the armoire. The onesies, socks, bibs, etc. all fit so nicely in there. There is even a little place for all of his shoes. However, I picked up two really cute pairs at the thrift store today so I may have to end up putting his booties in his closet.

The bottom drawer is going to hold his blankets....I think. I also have his towels in there as well.
I have huge plans for the inside of this armoire. Right now there are booties sitting there. I love them so cute. I plan on having Jeff lower the shelf a bit since I would have to get a step stool to change the boy. I am going to have to get the changing pad to put on there as well. I am thinking of getting a couple of baskets to put on the bottom shelf to hold diapers and the other necessary items. I also want to hang a small mobile or figures from the pole and maybe put some kind of artwork or picture on the back of the armoire. I haven't decided those details yet.

On top of the armoire, Jeff put together a little train set. It is so cute and wraps around the armoire. He did such a nice job on it.

A close up of the train set.

Another view of the train set.
Well, folks, this is it so far! I really like the set up of the furniture. I like that the armoire blocks some of the view from the door so that I have some privacy to nurse Isaac. Things seem to be coming together slowly, but surely. This month we are going to be buying him his carseat. We already have his stroller which I will have to take pictures of later.
Jeff and I make a trip into the nursery at least once a night and just look at things. We can't wait to hold our baby in our arms. Exciting times for sure!
Love to all,
Jeff and Pam

  1. Looks like this kid is going to be privileged!
I can't wait to see what he (Isaac) thinks of his room!
Don't take middle of the night crying as any indication.

  2. What a gorgeous room. It sure is a change from poor Beth's nursery/Dad's office. Now that was a mess! You see what it did to her? She's a mess. LOL. I await the first pic of Pesh holding Isaac. Like McDonald's - she'll be lovin' it.
